My Life
As you can tell by the website, my name is Jareth Gomes. I am a student at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. My life basically consists of running, computers, chess, eating, and sleeping. And yes, I also have played the violin for about years. I also like to game in my free time as well as code. I have learnt . You can view all my projects above in the project tab!
This year as of August, I am apart of the course staff for CS 233 Computer Architecture under instructor Geoffrey Herman. I mainly work on creating and revising Prairielearn questions as well as help out during group discussions and office hours.
I have also gotten involved a lot in the past year in Science Olympiad. For those that don't know, Science Olympiad is a 23 event competition where teams compete in groups of 2 or 3. I have competed in . Out of all those events, I was able to place 2nd in Mousetrap Vehicle and 3rd in Hovercraft at the 2018 Illinois State Meet and 5th for both Mousetrap Vehicle and Sounds of Music at the 2019 Illinois State Meet.
Now, I continue being part of the Science Olympiad community by volunteering for competitions. Here is the list of the competitions I have planned to attend this season.

My running career started back when I was in junior high. I was signed up for the Cross Country team and back then, I had a mile pace of about 11-12 minutes! I continued my running career through my years at Conant. Nowadays, rather than running for competition, I just run for the exercise. Below are a list of all my best times.

I have played chess for about 11 years, but only about 3 of those years I have been actually going more in depth. I consider myself to be more of an intermediate player. Challenge me if you want! I am ready to get roasted until I'm charred on the grill by a GM. ( ཀ ʖ̯ ཀ)
I small hobby that I enjoy is building computers. When I was 14, I built my first rig, and at the time it was top of the line. Overtime, I upgraded parts, like the GPU and the storage, but it still has good performance compared to mid-spec machines today.
- CPU: i7-4770 3.4GHz
- RAM: 16GB DDR3
- MOTHERBOARD: MSI Z97 Gaming 5
- STORAGE: Plextor M8Pe 512GB + 6TB HDD in RAID 5
- PSU: Corsair HX1000i
- CASE: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe Black
- GPU: MSI GTX 1080 Gaming 8GB
- MISC: Sound Blaster Audigy 5/rx
One thing in particular I liked about PC building is how machines have evolved to more and more smaller smaller form factors. Effectively, you could build PCs the size of the ordinary console, but with more performance and uses. In fact, I decided to build a new small form factor machine for Uni. The build also scored well on benchmarks for the given parts, so I was very proud of the work done.
